Eddie Roxy (Department S)

Ten-Midnight got an insight from Eddie Roxy  (Department S) into what songs inspired and shaped his musical life.

Song: The Beatles – She Loves You.

As a small boy in the 60’s my first musical memories are of playing Beatles records.

Song: T Rex – Hot Love.

The first single I ever bought, still sounds great today.

Song: David Bowie – Lady Grinning Soul.

Aladdin Sane was the first album I bought….it’s haunting melodies still stand the test of time.

Song: Eddie & the Hot Rods – Do anything you want to do.

I was a big fan of pub rock scene which opened the doors for Punk.

Song: The Clash – White Riot.

Always the main band for me.

Song: The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop.

Great live shows, 30 two minute songs all at 100 miles an hour.

Song: Ultravox – Hiroshima Mon Amour.

Saw them play live then went out the next day and bought a synthesizer, which was why I joined Department S.

Song: The Associates – Ice Cream Factory.

The golden vocals of Billy Mackenzie.

Song: Depeche Mode – Precious.

One of the few bands who actually got better with age.

Song: The Libertines – What Katie Did.

Came to them late…..Pete Doherty is such a great songwriter Grace/Wastelands his solo album is brilliant.

Favourite song ever: The Beatles – A Day in a life.

Could have been anything from their magical musical journey. Chose this one as I love the fact that they took 2 separate songs one by Lennon and one by McCartney and fused it into a single song.

Favourite song you have been involved in musically: Department S – IS Vic There?

Simple and catchy. Opens the door that allows us to work today.
